Phuket
Phuket's big water park, in Kathu between Patong and the old town: what a ticket really costs at the gate and on Viator, how far it is from each beach, and which months the weather lets it run all day.

Andamanda is Phuket’s large water park: about 100,000 square metres in Kathu, on the Phuket Town side of the hill behind Patong, themed on Thai legends and the Andaman coast. It is the island’s standard rainy-day answer, which is half right, for reasons below.
The question most people bring to it is the ticket, and the honest answer is that the gate price is fine and the cheapest-looking online ticket is not always the cheapest one for you. That depends on a rule most listings do not mention.

The park from the air, with the wave pool at the centre Photographs: Andamanda Phuket, from the Viator listings that sell its tickets; each opens its listing.
The centrepiece is Andamanda Bay, a wave pool of about 10,000 square metres with a sand beach and waves the park puts at up to three metres, built around a replica of Koh Tapu, the James Bond rock. Around it are the slide zones and a long lazy river, Rolling Ripples, which the park calls the longest on Phuket.
For thrill rides, the park names Dragon’s Drop, a drop capsule that sends you into a free fall; Eagle Flyer, which climbs a wall before it falls back; Cobra Curls; Garuda Soars; and Flight of the Kinnarees, which it describes as Phuket’s only shotgun slides. There is also a FlowRider for bodyboarding on a standing wave.
For small children, there are three areas built for them: Little Reef, with small slides; Wonder Waterland, with swings and a crab slide; and Atoll Adventures, a three-storey water playhouse with tipping buckets.
Practical: lockers, showers and changing rooms are at the entrance, in the building the park calls the Pearl Palace. Wear proper swimwear: the park does not allow underwear, jeans, skirts or clothes with zips or buttons in the water, and asks for swim nappies rather than ordinary ones.
The park prices by height. Viator sellers price by age. That one difference decides which ticket is cheaper for a family, and it is easier to see laid out than described.
At the gate
฿1,800

On Viator, ticket only
฿1,600–2,040

The rule that decides it: the park charges by height, Viator by age. On five of the eight ticket-only listings the adult price starts at age seven or younger, so a child who is seven but not yet 122 cm pays the child price at the gate and the adult price on those listings.

For an adult on their own, a Viator ticket can be a little cheaper than the gate or a little dearer, and the difference is small either way. For a family with a child under 122 cm, the park’s own price is usually the better one, because the park lets that child in at the child rate whatever their age.
Two adults and a child between 91 and 121 cm pay ฿4,800 for entry at the park’s prices. Two lockers and two towels add ฿800 booked online or ฿1,000 at the gate, so booking the extras ahead saves ฿200 and nothing else does.
Food is the other cost, because nothing can be brought in. The park has a boat-market restaurant, a seafood grill, swim-up bars and snack stands; budget for lunch and drinks inside rather than planning around a picnic.
The park also sells private cabanas: 37 of them, from ฿2,500 a day for a cabana for 4 by the wave pool to ฿10,000 for an air-conditioned water villa for up to 15. For a family that wants shade and somewhere to leave things all day, a cabana split four ways is worth pricing against four loungers in the sun.
Andamanda is inland, so every visit is a drive. It is closest to Patong and Phuket Town, and furthest from the northern beaches and the airport: 29.6 km, about 36 minutes, from the airport.
OSRM over OpenStreetMap roads, from each beach's own point to the place, with no traffic: a floor, not a forecast.
Without a car, the choice is a taxi or ride-hailing app each way, a ticket that includes a transfer, or the park’s own pass with a shared pick-up from most of the island’s beach areas, which is listed with the tickets above while its offer runs.
The usual advice is that a water park is the thing to do when it rains, and it is half true: you are wet anyway. But the park stops rides temporarily in bad weather, and in the wet season that is a question of how often. In October, Phuket’s rainiest month by days, it rains on 28 of them.
The months with the fewest rain days are January, February and March, with February the driest. Those are also Phuket’s busiest months, so a weekday morning is the time to arrive.
Driest is February at 32mm over 6 rain days, wettest is October at 315mm over 28 rain days.
For the island’s other days out, things to do in Phuket sorts them by month, and the Phuket weather page has the rain and the sea behind every figure here.
At the park's own prices, 1,800 baht for anyone 122 cm and over, 1,200 baht from 91 to 121 cm and for over-60s, and free under 91 cm. A locker and a towel are 200 baht each online or 250 at the gate. Viator listings for a ticket alone run from about 1,600 to 2,040 baht for an adult.
Not always. The park lists one ticket price, 1,800 baht for an adult; what it lists cheaper online is the locker and the towel, by 50 baht each. Some Viator listings come in under the gate price and some over it, and most of them set the adult price by age where the park sets it by height, which can make a child's ticket more expensive.
10am to 6pm for the main park, and 10am to 7pm for the Emerald Forest zone, according to the park. Rides can be stopped temporarily for maintenance, safety or bad weather.
About 11 km, roughly a quarter of an hour by road without traffic. The park is in Kathu, on the Phuket Town side of the hill behind Patong, and about seven minutes from Phuket Old Town.
No. Outside food and drink are on the park's list of prohibited items, along with snorkelling gear, personal flotation devices and pets. There are several restaurants and bars inside.
January to March, when Phuket has the fewest rain days. You are wet anyway at a water park, but the park stops rides in bad weather, and from May to November Phuket has rain on more than twenty days in every month.
