Thailand in July

The same shape as June, with the north now properly wet. Chiang Mai is at 221mm against 145 in June, and Koh Samui is still at 90mm.

Where it rains in July, and how much

Driest first. Koh Samui takes 90mm this month and Krabi takes 247mm, which is 3 times as much. The strip on the right is that place's whole year, with July outlined, so you can see whether this is a good month for it or merely a bad one everywhere.

  1. Koh Samui 90mm 19 rain days
  2. Bangkok 154mm 24 rain days
  3. Thailand's islands 217mm 22 rain days
  4. Chiang Mai 221mm 24 rain days
  5. Phuket 223mm 23 rain days
  6. Krabi 247mm 25 rain days

ERA5 reanalysis, 1995 to 2024, averaged per calendar month at each place's own coordinates. A rain day is a day with a millimetre or more.

The Andaman holds where it was: Phuket 223mm, Krabi 247mm, the islands 217mm. The Gulf holds too, at 90mm across nineteen rain days for Koh Samui, and the gap between the two coasts is at its widest for the year.

The change is inland. Chiang Mai's monsoon has arrived and 221mm is more than the Andaman is taking in the same month. The north is green and the waterfalls are running, which is a real reason to go, but it is not the dry mountain trekking that January offers.

July is the European and British summer holiday, which means the Gulf islands are busy despite being in what most people assume is the wrong season. They are not in the wrong season, and the prices reflect that.
